A mindful approach to photography saved my life

This is the working title of my new book. Actually, the full title is A mindful approach to photography saved my life (and it might save yours). It’s a collation of all I have developed and learnt about Mindful Photography over the last decade. It’s part manifesto and part memoir and will help you to use photography to process the difficulties, changes and losses in your life.

My intention is to provide you with a route map, a way of working towards a method of aligning what you see, with what you think and feel. To provide you with a mindful approach to photography; to seeing the photo opportunity, composing the photo, making appropriate technical choices and pressing the shutter to create the photo. I will provide you with direction, explanations and techniques. This will be illustrated with my photos, accompanied by practical mindful photography activities for you to follow and illuminated by personal stories. You will develop knowledge and skills through reading and practice.

Not only will this enable a mindful approach to learning well established photography skills, but it will also embrace well-known mindfulness courses: the Mindfulness for Life course offered by the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation, and the MBSR – Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, first developed by John Kabat Zinn.

All of this will be offered in a practical and experiential manner that I have honed over the last eleven years, a period of time decorated with major life challenges. I haven’t just taught this approach; I have lived it. A mindful approach to photography has saved my life, and it might save yours too.

I intend to publish a limited, high quality, printed edition. If this sounds like something you might be interested in message me via the contact page.
