Today my practice involved wandering the back lanes of urban Swansea, with an intention. This is best explained by Guy Tal who said, “I consider myself not just a photographer, but also an expressive artist, meaning, among other things, that I wish for my photographs to convey emotions.”
This I can relate to, in fact it occupies my current creative endeavours. When I go out to practice Mindful Photography I do so with the intention to notice how I feel about what I see, and then to try and convey that in my photos. As Aristotle said, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”
All the photos shared here, whatever their style, are my attempts to do just that. The test of course, is in whether they evoke any feelings in the viewer. Some of the photos are of scenes as they were, that share how I felt about what I saw. Others are creations; combinations of two exposures, that also attempt to convey a feeling about the place. What feelings do they evoke for you?
